Message From Our Parish Family

We at St. Dismas know that the death of a loved one can be a time of great sorrow, confusion, pain, and loss.  Please know that our parish family is here to provide you with comfort and support.

Our faith can offer solace and strength at this time and give us an opportunity to encounter God in a new way.  It can also deepen our assurance in God's love for us and for our loved one.  This is a time for us to support and console one another, especially in our belief in the promise and gift of eternal life.

When we as Christians encounter death, we are drawn to prayer.  Praying for those who have died and for those who loved them.  The prayer that supports Catholic Christians at the time of death is called the funeral rites.  Through the funeral rites we offer worship, praise, and thanksgiving to God for the gift of life which has now been returned to God.  The celebrating of the Catholic funeral rites brings hope and consolation to the living.  The prayers at the vigil or wake, the Mass of Christian Burial (Funeral Mass) and the burial are all part of these funeral rites.

Fr. Rugen and the Bereavement Committee will help you prepare to celebrate these rites.  You will be contacted after the funeral home has called our parish to inform us of the death of your loved one.
